English Premier League Tottenham versus Chelsea Preview
English Premier League Tottenham versus Chelsea Preview. Chelsea have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a point ahead of Tottenham in the league table. Spurs will hope to beat them and leap their position to third. This match will be a hard battle.
Tottenham Team News
Tottenham have won their last four matches in all competitions without playing convincing football. Two late Harry Kane goals were required to beat PSV 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League before a hard fought 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in the EPL.
Danny Rose was expected to be close to a comeback after the international break, but Ben Davies may continue at left-back for now. Kieran Trippier faces a late fitness test on the opposite flank but Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele are definitely out, and the match-winner against Crystal Palace, Juan Foyth, may continue at centre-back with Davinson Sanchez a doubt.
Christian Eriksen missed the Crystal Palace match but featured for Denmark during the international break. The attacking midfielder should be ready to go for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and will hope to regain form.
Chelsea Team News
The Blues are flying under new manager Maurizio Sarri and are undefeated since the Italian took over in the summer. However, the Blues are four points behind Manchester City and two behind Liverpool.
Maurizio Sarri could make some changes here with Olivier Giroud replacing Alvaro Morata up front and midfielder Ross Barkley coming in for Mateo Kovacic who is a doubt. Kovacic is the only concern with Sarri otherwise having a fully fit squad to choose from. Pedro could start ahead of Willian on the right.
Chelsea’s five match winning run came to a halt at home to Everton last time out, when the Toffees frustrated Maurizio Sarri’s side in a goalless draw. It came on the back of a 1-0 win at BATE Borisov – sealed by Olivier Giroud’s goal – that confirmed progress in the Europa League.
Tottenham and Chelsea Match Preview
Chelsea may be unbeaten in the league so far but they are just a solitary point ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Nevertheless, they have been tough to break down at the back and scoring goals at the other end with Alvaro Morata recapturing his best form of late and Ross Barkley hitting his stride.
The Blues are playing with confidence led by winger Eden Hazard, the Belgium winger with seven goals and four assists in 11 EPL appearances this season. Midfielder Jorginho has quickly become a key player in central midfield and his partnership with N’Golo Kante is a major reason for Chelsea’s success.
Chelsea are unbeaten in the league so far this season and, while that only translates to being one point and one place better off than Spurs in the league table, it does mean they will be difficult to beat – as, in all fairness, will Spurs.
